Today I talk about one of the greatest naturally funny comedians around when we listen to Jimmy Pardo “Pompous Clown”.
Jimmy Pardo is the warm up act for Conan and the host of the Never Not Funny Podcast. If you’ve seen his Comedy Central special, well, then you haven’t seen Pardo at his best. Patton Oswalt called “Pompous Clown” essential listening to every comedian, and I couldn’t agree more.
Here’s the magic of “Pompous Clown”, it doesn’t always work. There are high spots and low spots, but it’s like listening to the comedy equivalent of a tight rope act. You know the performer is a professional and it’s going to end well, but it’s a thrill the whole time through.
Pardo riffs with the crowd, and while that may sound like it wouldn’t translate into an audio recording of a show you weren’t at, I assure you it’s gold. I remember the first time I heard it, I was inspired to attempt to “pardo” a show and see how much time I could do without dipping into the prepared well of material. It went fine, but I’m no Pardo. What Pardo does is a skill. It’s the perfect blend of improv and stand up. Pardo is a weird and brilliant man and I could listen to his stream of consciousness all day long….night time comes along and I am out of there…sun goes down and I’m putting on a little CCR “Bad Moon Rising”.
Mike Bobbitt is arguably one of the funniest, if not the funniest comedian working in Detroit. In his eight years in the business he’s already performed in numerous comedy festivals and worked with some of the biggest names in the business.
The remarkable thing about Mike Bobbitt is that he’s able to walk the fine line between speaking to a very specific crowd while maintaining a level of accessibility to the masses.
Mike currently wrapped production on the television show that he and his wife wrote. I had a chance to talk to him while he was in Madison, Wisconsin.
Mike, let me start by saying you look really handsome.
You manage to be both cute and cuddly and ruggedly handsome at the same time. That’s quite a feat.
I appreciate that, but this is already starting off a little weird.
